Lasseter was working on a short film at the time and, at the end of the meeting, Lasseter says Steve Jobs asked him to do one thing: Make it great. The short, Tin Toy, went on to win the first academy award ever given for computer animation and set the foundation for what later would become Toy Story. Lasseter has told the story publicly a few times, most recently in this emotional tribute at Disneys D23 Expo (the story begins at 8:30). Lasseter said those three wordsmake it greathave applied to every frame of every Pixar movie he worked on. Is everything you do as great as it could be? This could very well be the most important question you ask yourself as a leader. Your customers deserve nothing less. Dont just make it; make it great. Southbury Movie Theater: We Asked, You Answered

Comments 2 Simon Pegg, left, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright have reunited for the film comedy, "The World's End," which has been winning strong early reviews. (Ricardo DeAratanha / Los Angeles Times / August 17, 2013) Also By Glenn Whipp August 17, 2013, 4:34 p.m. Labor Day is almost here and we're deep enough into the calendar year that when a film critic declares a picture to be "light-years the most entertaining movie of the year," we sit up and take notice -- even if the year as a whole has been almost entirely bereft of "entertaining" movies, or, at least, the kind of movies that aspire to merely entertain and not make you dwell on tragedy ("Fruitvale Station"), the emptiness of our culture ("The Bling Ring") or the struggles that come with aging and evolving with someone you love ("Before Midnight"). New York magazine film critic David Edelsetein gushes that Edgar Wright's new comedy, "The World's End," contains "one bravura set piece after another," "brilliantly staged" action and an all-star cast that is "perfection." The review ran nearly two weeks before the film's opening (it arrives in theaters Friday), which would seem curious timing had not several outlets also jumped the gun, publishing their glowing notices back in July when the movie opened in England. "The World's End," like 2004's zombie comedy "Shaun of the Dead" and 2007's action movie send-up "Hot Fuzz," stars Nick Frost and Simon Pegg and was written by Wright and Pegg. The film follows a group of friends who discover an alien invasion during a pub crawl, though the genre aspects of the movie, as in the earlier films, function as a framework to explore deeper topics like nostalgia, addiction and male friendship. Here's the trailer: <!--iframe--> Most of today's movie posters seem like bad Photoshop jobs and aren't terribly awe-inspiring. Next to Struzan's detailed and remarkable work, they look 100 times worse. I had the pleasure of interviewing Struzan many years ago, and it was so exciting to hear stories about his relationships with some of my favorite movies. Under zoning, this site is permitted to have 2 theater spaces that could provide a total of over 1300 seats (650 seats or more each). What we will do is split that same total capacity into 8-10 smaller theaters -the result is the same size building and footprint as 2-screens. So a comparison to such complexes like Waterbury (3190 seats) and Danbury (3700) is absolutely inaccurate. Having multiple theater spaces varying in sizes, will allow us to show a variety films, including mainstream and independent movies and to allow spaces to be used for lectures, opera simulcasts and local productions. The multiple screen set up would also have staggered show times, and peak business would mostly come in the evening when traffic is the least. There is a more complete description of the project on our page, feel free to read this check it out. Also we will do our best to answer any questions or comments you may have on the project. Thanks!" Traffic concerns Fifteen people talked about increased traffic in town, if a movie theater were built. "I think this is a terrible idea.
Source:

Steve Jobs movie slammed by critics — and Woz

Getty Images Ashton Kutcher, star of Jobs. The Jobs movie opened on Friday. Starring Ashton Kutcher in the title role, the film is essentially an unauthorized take on the infamous tech visionary. Another movie, based on Walter Isaacsonspopular biography Steve Jobs which included the cooperation of Jobs, his family and the company is in development with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin attached to write, but no projected release date for that film has yet been given. Judging by the reviews for Jobs, there still may be plenty of room for another film treatment. As of Friday morning, Jobs is carrying a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 26% meaning about three quarters of the reviewers tabulated have given the flick a Thumbs Down. The RT rating among so-called top critics was even lower at 20%. Eisenhower), James Marsden (as John F. Kennedy), Liev Schreiber (as Lyndon B. Johnson), John Cusack (as Richard Nixon), and Alan Rickman (as Ronald Regan). None deliver particularly convincing performances (though Rickman's perma-wince of constipation is dead-on), but all serve as reminders that Hollywood history is just as white-male dominated as U.S. history. Daniels' explanation of their casting serves to Kim Kardashian breast remind that it still is. To its credit, The Butler doesn't whine or preach much. It's happy to settle for a broad rendering of the way things were and are.
Source:

His son, Louis, is working from outside the system, becoming a Freedom Rider, sitting inat Woolworth's, involving himself with Martin Luther King, Jr.,and briefly the Black Panthers. In the course of the movie, this causes much friction between the two, but it also asks of the audience to consider which side they would be on, and what they would choose were they in the same situation. It helps that both roles are played so well. While a story of the civil rights movement is always a worthy topic, it is the acting inLee Daniels' The Butler, first and foremost, that makes it worth seeing and supporting. Forest Whitaker is so good he could have played this role in his sleep. He turns on every trick of subtlety and nuance to carve a real, evolving man, what most of the audience ultimately is meant to see as a silent hero of civil rights, to play the lead Cecil Gaines. Whitaker has never been bad in any movie I can remember, and it is heartening to see him starring once again in a role he can sink his teeth into, especially as it requires a quiet grace that is in utter contrast to his famed role inThe Last King of Scotland.
Source:

‘Austenland,’ movie review

The comic "Kick-Ass 2" is a lean, unpleasant piece of work, with a slight, straightforward tale of blood and revenge, so Jeff Wadlow, in taking over duties as writer-director from Matthew Vaughn, had to expand on the story. High schooler Dave Lizewski ( Aaron Taylor-Johnson ) is desperate to get back in action as his alter-ego Kick-Ass, while the now teenage Mindy Macready (Chloe Grace Moretz) is struggling to maintain a promise that she no longer adopt the persona of Hit-Girl. Chris D'Amico ( Christopher Mintz-Plasse ) is leaving behind his identity as superhero Red Mist to assume the mantle of the world's first super-villain, with a new name unprintable here. As in the first film, Moretz and her character of Hit-Girl largely overwhelm the rest of the film. Wadlow's main addition to the story is expanding the attention given to the adventures of Mindy in the land of other young women, grappling with other people's ideas of normal. Among the film's best moments is when young Mindy, trying to fit in, sees a boy-band video for the first time, unleashing a wave of hormonal responses that Moretz captures perfectly.
Source:,0,7182428.story

Movie Review: Lee Daniels' The Butler

But that alternate Austenland would need to be less square than this one, directed by Napoleon Dynamite co-writer Jerusha Hess and produced by Twilight doyenne Stephenie Meyer. Between the squealing giddiness demonstrated at the mere thought of a submersive Austen-world and the way almost every moment is overplayed, the film wears out its welcome faster than a poor cousin in the country guesthouse. Keri Russell is Jane (get it?), a plain-Jane (yes, we get it ...) who blows her life savings on a trip to a Disney-like mini-theme park populated by the types of characters in Pride & Prejudice, Emma and Sense & Sensibility. Janes luck with gauche modern guys is nil. She pines for a real-life Darcy, obsessed as she is with Colin Firths 1995 turn in the BBC production of P&P. So shes primed for what Austenlands proprietor (starchily one-note Jane Seymour) promises will wind up in romance no touching allowed, of course. Keri Russell and JJ Feild in Austenland Janes fellow emotional tourist is a crass American ( Kim Kardashian shoes line Jennifer Coolidge ) whos there because she thinks her cleavage will look great in the tight gowns. The movie has some fun with the now-legendary story of how Jobs and Steve Wozniak launched Apple from the garage of Jobs' parents' house in Los Altos, California. Several real-life characters -- electrical engineer Rod Holt and early investor Mike Markkula -- show up at the house for the first time and gaze dubiously at Jobs' workspace and his motley crew of assistants. The scene where Jobs and Markkula negotiate Apple's first infusion of venture capital takes place in Jobs' parents' dining room, with his mother serving the confused Markkula bread and a plate of fruit. "Steve's a fruitarian," one of his buddies says -- a reference to the unusual diet of her young son, Kim Kardashian video who once went a whole week eating only apples. It's not clear whether such a scene actually took place. According to Isaacson's book, which was written with Jobs' cooperation, the early business plan for Apple was hammered out over a period of weeks at Markkula's house. There's no mention in the book of what they ate.
Source:

And if we want to be great, weve got to risk it too. Steve Jobs didnt hesitate to take risks. If he wanted something, he would ask, even at a young age. When Jobs was twelve years old he called up HP co-founder Bill Hewlett and asked for spare parts. Hewlett gave Jobs the parts and a summer job. Youve got to be willing to crash and burn. If youre afraid of failing, you wont get very far, Jobs once said.
Source:

David Oyelowo, as Louis Gaines, has a fire inside the audience can connect with and understand. It is easy from our historical perspective to side with how he works toward change, but in this movie we see his struggle and how the love he has for his family makes his choices he feels are so necessary so difficult for him. Oprah Winfrey as the family matriarch offers a steady female voice, but we see her own personal struggle, apart from all that is happening outside her own household, to maintain connection and communication with those she loves. She is never any less than fully present in the role, and the audience understands and feels for her even in her worst choices and mistakes. There are many other actors dropping in and out of the film, it would take forever to go through them all. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lenny Kravitz shine the most and are most memorable in their supporting roles. The main trouble is in the secondary casting and some of the script.
Source:

Its script, by Danny Strong, is strained and artificial, a historical litany of what its star Oprah Winfrey calls "A-ha Moments" ("That was first time I ever seen a white man stick his neck out for us"), delivered with perpetually hushed reverence. It reminded me of 2004's Crash, in that barely a scene goes by without a forced discussion of race, no matter who's talking (often, it's a president being insensitive as Cecil looks on by with devastating humility). But I get that in order to communicate with stupid people, sometimes you gotta get stupid yourself. In doing so, The Butler probably gives up its shot at being a great movie. But it is a great feat, and it works much better as an artifact than a film.
Source:

The Party has been a stalwart source of support, but the Chinese public appears to question whether entertainment troupes have outlived their usefulness. User @ asked whether the function could be outsourced : "Have (the authorities) made a calculation? Is it appropriate to keep the entertainment army units or we should pay other professional troupes for performing for our soldiers?" User @ went further : " In peacetime, the sole value of keeping entertainment soldiers is for corruption!" There is some truth to this assertion. The PLA has not released details of its military spending, so there are no accurate statistics about PLA entertainment expenditures. The consensus guess is that the current scale of PLA entertainment troupes exceeds 10,000 people while the total cost of keeping the entertainment soldiers and army units of low operational capacity could amount to 10 billion RMB (about US $1.6 billion).
Source:

Quotes From Celebrities on Age

How many times have fans heard of their favourite celebrities having started out as dorks? One of the most predictable tropes among Hollywood stars is that they all started as awkward, ugly and weird individuals before becoming the hunks and bombshells they are now. Who could ever forget the big-toothed and freckled-faced Emma Watson for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone?"
